Your house never looks more cluttered and dirty than it does in the summer weather. As the sun streams through your windows, the dirt and grime built up in your home is exposed in all its filthy glory. Furthermore, all the stuff you’ve accumulated over the winter, like a hibernating hedgehog, now stands out like a sore thumb.
Is it any wonder then that most people choose to clean and declutter their homes during the summer!?

So why not throw open your windows, get your cleaning gear out and have a good old-fashioned summer clearout. Our top tips below are designed to help you get the very most out of your efforts:
Pick the Right Time for your summer clearout
While we’ve already established that over the summer is a great time to have a tidy up and a clear out, the exact days on which you do it are still open to discussion. After all, you don’t want it to be too hot when you’re working, but you definitely want a dry day so you can have all your doors and windows open throughout.
Divide the Space
What might seem like a daunting task when you look at it as a complete job, is much more easily managed if you simply divide the space. Focus on one area at a time and don’t move on to the next until you’ve finished the one you started. Not only will you be able to better see your progress, you’ll also feel good hitting mini milestones.
Make a list
Making a list really helps. Write down what you want to achieve, make a list of things you definitely want to keep and go from there. By writing things down before you start, you’ll give yourself much more chance of finishing the task in hand.
Be ruthless
We all have too much stuff, it’s everywhere, but when it comes to filling the bin bags it can be too easy to be sentimental. The bottom line is that it pays to be brutal. You’re probably not using half of it anyway and a good clear out is not only good for the soul, but can earn you a few £££s too (see next point).
Arrange suitable disposal
When you get started, you’ll likely be amazed at just how much junk you’ve accrued over the years. How will you get rid of it all? You can arrange a man and a van, or just take some of the junk to the tip yourself, but how about a boot sale, or a charity shop? The good news is that there are lots of ways to get rid of your junk (obviously we only condone legit ones), and what’s no good to you may still have plenty of use to someone else.
Freshen up
Now you’ve had a clearout, think about freshening up the place. A lick of paint here and there, maybe some extra cupboards to stop the clutter building again, etc. For that, you can talk to us here at Aquarius Home Improvements. We can have someone come in and do a really professional job, giving you a home that you’ll fan in love with all over again.
Don’t forget, it’ll be hard work having a summer clearout, but it’ll definitely be worth it!
